Perth Wildcats star guard Damian Martin has been named the club’s captain for the 2013/14 NBL season.
Damian Martin became a co-captain alongside Shawn Redhage last season following Brad Robbins retirement from the league.
The 29-year-old says it's a huge honour to be captain of the WIldcats.
"It's such a proud club, and I think the longer I've been here, the more I've come to realise just what a fantastic organisation it is and to be captain of such a place with fantastic teammates - it's something I'll never take for granted," said Martin.
"I'd love to be a championship winning captain, so the goal is to get the best out of myself and my teammates and I think if I can help dp that then that will lead to a championship."
Wildcats veteran Shawn Redhage and Greg Hire have been named co-vice captains.
Damian Martin has played 150 NBL games, 118 of those with the Perth Wildcats.
Martin was a championship player with the ‘Cats in 2010 and has been named NBL Defensive Player of the Year every season since – making him just the third player in the league’s history to win the award in three consecutive seasons.
He will make his official return to the court after injuring his achilles in last year’s semi-final series on 11 October when the Wildcats season tips off against Adelaide at Perth Arena.
