Knight suffers slight calf injury
Sunday, June 19, 2011, 07:02:00 AM
Perth Wildcats big man Matt Knight strained his calf playing with the Willetton Tigers on Friday night and while it's a slight injury he will be out for about two weeks meaning he will miss the Boomers camp in Perth this week.

Knight was coming off a strong finish to his first season with the Perth Wildcats as the main focal point down low and was in good form in the SBL with the Willetton Tigers, but early on in Friday night's game he suffered a slight strain to the calf he tore during the 2010/11 NBL season.

It happened early in the game between Willetton and the Lakeside Lightning at the Lakeside Recreation Centre when he slipped on a wet patch on the court.

The timing is disappointing for Knight given he was set to be part of the Boomers camp in Perth this week ahead of the YouYi Games with China that features a game at Challenge Stadium next Friday and in Singapore on Sunday.

However, the injury is only set to keep him out of action for one week and the Perth Wildcats will take a cautious approach with it and likely have him sit out two weeks of action, but it is just a slight strain and is not expected to have any further ramifications.

Knight is likely to be invited to the next Boomers camp that will take place in the lead up to the series with New Zealand.
