Matt Knight to return from injury
The Perth Wildcats have confirmed that star big man Matt Knight will return from injury in this evening’s game against the Cairns Taipans. In the dying minutes of the ‘Cats Round 8 clash against Townsville, Knight injured his right calf muscle and has since missed five games as he recovered from the blow. Both Knight and his injury replacement player, import Mike Dunigan, travelled to Cairns but the Wildcats coaching and medical staff have declared Knight fit to play after his calf recovered well following the long flight. In his eight games this season, Knight has proved to be one of NBL’s best big men, averaging 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, and was voted by fans as the starting Centre in the South All-Stars side – though due to his injury was unable to play. Matt Knight’s return to the Wildcats means that import Mike Dunigan will no longer remain with the team, as he could only play for as long as Knight was injured. In his four games, the American impressed fans with his athletic play above the rim, averaging 13.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The Perth Wildcats would like to thank Mike for his professional attitude and contribution on and off the court during his time at the club. Tonight’s game tips-off at 5.30pm AWST from the Cairns Convention Centre, and will be broadcast live on NBL.TV and Sonshine FM.
