Hire rises up for mental health

It is no secret that Greg Hire is one of the most charitable athletes going around.

The Wildcats vice-captain is passionate about giving back, particularly when it comes to youth mental health.

The 29-year-old has even founded his own charity, A Stitch in Time, and at the weekend he hosted his second annual fund raiser event – the Rise Up Gala Dinner.

Hire assembled a few of his mates – which happen to be among WA’s most famous faces – to wait on tables at Saturday’s event while guests helped raised funds for the youth mentoring charity.

Celebrity waiters included Wildcat Damian Martin, West Coast Eagles Nic Naitanui and Luke Shuey, cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, Olympian Blair Evans, radio personality Nathan Morris, stars from the Bachelor Australia and many more, who were all happy and willing to donate their time to the cause.

Suicide is the leading cause of death in people aged 15 to 24 years of ages, and Greg Hire’s vision is for A Stitch in Time is to establish a strong presence in WA schools and through mentoring, leadership and support, help young people get through difficult times.
