The Perth Wildcats go into Sunday’s game against Melbourne United with the opportunity to lock in a position in the 2017 NBL Finals.
Lose, and it’s likely the Wildcats won’t play in the post-season.
The only team that could give them a chance is Brisbane. They’d need to defeat Illawarra on Saturday afternoon.
However, the Wildcats are going in with one thing on their mind: winning.
They started the do-or-die weekend in style, crushing the Sydney Kings on Friday night which not only ended the Kings season, it ruled Melbourne out of contention.
Strangely, it also saw the Cairns Taipans clinch a playoffs berth with one game to go.
With a convincing lead early in the fourth, the Wildcats had the luxury of pulling stars Casey Prather, Bryce Cotton, Damian Martin and Matt Knight off the court – which will aid recovery with a short turn around and travel on Saturday.
The team fly to Melbourne tomorrow morning.
Tip-off on Sunday is at midday Perth time.
The game will be live on SBS, as well as Fox Sports 503.
It’s arguably the biggest regular season home game in club history.
