The 2012/13 season saw Greg Hire become a true force in the NBL, particularly on the defensive end with his determination to pull down big rebounds. In February 2013 he grabbed a career high 14 rebounds in the Wildcats’ win over the Adelaide 36ers. During the season, Hire was elevated into the team’s leadership group and starting five en route to being named Perth’s Most Improved Player of the season. In 2012/13 he averaged 5.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Hire is a product of the Wanneroo Wolves basketball program where he was named SBL Rookie of the Year in 2006. He attended college in the US at Miles Community College and Augusta State University before returning to Australia in 2010 and joining the Wildcats as a development player and continuing in the SBL with Wanneroo, where he captained the Wolves to the 2011 championship. The Wildcats then offered him a contract where his hard work led to his improvement as a player. He averages 3.2 points per game, 2.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists throughout his career.
