Matt Knight established himself as the league’s premier big man in the 2012/13 NBL season. He opened up the year with a NBL Player of the Week winning performance over the NZ Breakers and continued his strong form in the following weeks. Knight missed five games in the middle of the season with a calf injury but came back strong and played out the remainder of the season. He was named in the All-NBL First Team and finished runner-up in the Wildcats MVP award, averaging 14.4 points, 0.9 assists and 6.9 rebounds per game for the season.
Matt Knight is a product of Tasmanian basketball and was a part of Australia’s under-20 world championship winning team before studying at Loyola Marymount University in the United States. Following college, he returned to Australia to play for the West Sydney Razorbacks, which then became the Sydney Spirit. Knight played a season in Hungary in 2009/10 before being signed by the Perth Wildcats where he played in both the 2012 and 2013 grand finals.
