Perth Wildcats lead assistant coach Scott Roth has been appointed inaugural head coach of the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Roth arrived in Perth in October last year, and went on to helped the Wildcats to the 2020 title.

He thanked the Perth Wildcats for the opportunity.

“I want to thank the entire Perth Wildcats organisation led by Jack Bendat and Troy Georgiu as well as the coaches led by Trevor Gleeson, all the players and the Red Army that welcomed me to Perth and allowed me to be part of an NBL Championship,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed a long journey in basketball but as soon as I moved to Australia I knew the NBL was where I wanted to be long term. This is a world class league and I can’t wait to get started and prepare for our inaugural season.”

Roth will commence his new role on 1 March, ahead of Tasmania’s entry into the NBL for the 2021/22 season.

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson thanked him for his work over the last year.

“Scott is going to be a great head coach in the NBL. His experience, knowledge and rapport with the players and coaches made him a terrific asset to our club,” said Gleeson.

“We’re very happy for him but disappointed our organisation is losing a quality person. I wish him the very best and am looking forward to a new rivalry with Tasmania. They’re in good hands.”

The Perth Wildcats have begun the recruitment process for a new lead assistant coach.
