OKC Thunder player Olivier Sarr has heaped praised on his young brother and Perth Wildcats young gun Alex Sarr, describing him as mature “beyond his years”.

Olivier said he had been particularly impressed with his 19-year-old sibling’s ability to perform under immense pressure.

“I’m impressed on how well he is doing,” Olivier told Andscape.

“We don’t talk about whether he is nervous today, the games or the chatter. He’s beyond his years. He doesn’t see any pressure at all.”

Alex Sarr’s draft stocks continued to rise during his time at the Wildcats.

He arrived last off-season as a projected top-20 pick and left at the top of several mock drafts after a stunning debut season in the NBL.

Olivier felt Alex’s Perth move, to be the Wildcats’ first ever Next Star, was a great one, saying it was tailored for him to improve.

“Look at the NBL, it’s grown men. It’s not like college,” Olivier said.

“The G League Ignite is also different in its own lane, playing against guys who have played pro before in the EuroLeague and the NBA. The good thing about it with the Next Stars program is you’re the only young guy on the team. It’s targeted and tailored for you to get better.”

The 216cm Alex Sarr, who averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in NBL24, has regularly spoken about modelling his game on and looking up to his 25-year-old brother.

He said it would be a dream come true to play alongside each other, but was happy for his name to be called out by anyone in the 2024 NBA Draft in late June.
