Cattalini to be Inducted into Wildcats Hall of Fame
Cattalini’s journey with Perth began as a teenager, making his NBL debut at just 19 years of age. Joining the Wildcats in 1993, Cattalini played 19 games in his debut season, gaining valuable experience within a star-studded Perth lineup.
By 1994, his role had expanded significantly, emerging as a key contributor and delivering a breakout playoffs performance, producing 27 points and seven rebounds in the opening quarterfinal against South East Melbourne.
His rise continued in 1995, with a championship year etched into Wildcats history. As Perth claimed the NBL’s historic Triple Crown, winning the pre-season tournament, minor premiership and NBL championship, Cattalini established himself as an important piece of a title-winning squad featuring club legends Andrew Vlahov, Ricky Grace, Scott Fisher and James Crawford.
Cattalini’s early years and team success in Perth drew attention from overseas and NBL clubs. Across stints in Adelaide, Cairns and Europe, Cattalini built a reputation as one of the game’s elite forwards.
Where Cattalini went, success followed, winning back to back championships with the Adelaide 36ers in 1998 and 1999 and earning multiple All-NBL Team honours.
His career would fittingly come full circle, returning to the Wildcats for the 2009/10 season. He became part of a new-look Perth squad that captured the club’s fifth NBL Championship. In what proved to be his final professional season, Cattalini contributed valuable experience and leadership to a group that launched another era of Wildcats success.
Over fifteen NBL seasons, Cattalini averaged 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds across 453 games, a body of work reflecting both longevity and impact.
Beyond club basketball, Cattalini represented Australia at the highest level, earning selection to the Boomers at both the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
His contribution to Western Australian basketball was formally recognised in 2025 with his induction into the Basketball WA Hall of Fame, acknowledging a career that began in Fremantle and progressed to the sport’s national and international stages.
Further reflecting his legacy, the Cattalini Cup is contested annually between the Perth Wildcats and Adelaide 36ers, named in honour of his rare achievement of winning NBL championships with both organisations.
Martin Cattalini’s induction into the Perth Wildcats Hall of Fame recognises a career defined by durability, championship success and a lasting impact on the club’s history.
