Emerging forward Cam Huefner has been making the most of his off-season, spending time at the club and getting the work in early with the coaching staff, ahead of his first NBL season.

The Perth Wildcats signed the 6’7" South Australian to a three-year deal with the club in April, with the first year set to be as a Development Player for NBL26 before joining the main roster the following season. But if his current work ethic is anything to go by, Huefner is eager to accelerate that timeline.

Huefner has been on court with the Wildcats coaching staff, focusing on strength and conditioning, shooting reps and individual skill work.

“I've been busy, been up at 6: 00 every morning, working out with JR and the coaches. So it's nice to meet them and see how everything rolls around here” Huefner said. “In about a month's time, I'll come back before preseason, start getting ready, seeing how everything operates and just prepping for the season."

Known for his perimeter shooting and defensive versatility, the 22-year-old brings valuable experience from the US college system, where he averaged 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in his final season at Sam Houston State.

When asked what he will bring over the next three seasons, Huefner added "My job is to rebound and shoot threes. So hopefully, I'll make a few threes and get the arena bumping, you could say. So rebound, shoot some threes, make some plays, and go from there.”

Assistant Coach Keegan Crawford was impressed with what he saw during the week.

“Was great having Cam with us this week as he builds towards preseason for the Wildcats in NBL26. Cam’s a strong and impressive kid. Was great to see his ability to shoot the ball and compete physically on our open runs and workouts across the week. He’s a quick learner and has a high IQ following his experience as a dominant player in college. Really looking forward to his growth in the next three years with the Wildcats!”

Huefner is expected to join the full squad in August as pre-season preparations begin ahead of NBL26.
