Perth Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff has been named in Australia's 3x3 team to compete at this month's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Wagstaff will team up with Greg Hire, with whom he won four NBL championships alongside, as well as NBL veteran Daniel Johnson and 3x3 specialist Thomas Wright.

Wagstaff, Hire and Johnson were part of Australia's FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup winning team at the weekend in Singapore.

The Wildcats legend was named tournament MVP after topping the scoring.

Birmingham will be Wagstaff's second trip to the Commonwealth Games, after he won gold on the Gold Coast in 2018 with the Australian Boomers.

Greg Hire has won multiple 3x3 Asia Cups with Australia, but will be making his first Commonwealth Games appearence.

“I found 3x3 the perfect combination for me. I could still play and wanted to explore something new, so it was the natural next step in my career,” he said.

“Representing your country on the world stage is something every child dreams about. I hope I can inspire others to pursue those dreams – be it on or off the court.”

The 2022 Commonwealth Games begin on 28 July.

Congratualtions, Jesse Wagstaff and Greg Hire!
