Kyle Zunic named in young Boomers squad
Perth Wildcats young gun Kyle Zunic has been named in Basketball Australia's 17-man squad ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers to be held in Okinawa, Japan this month.
Zunic, who made history by starting in his first game as a development player in this season's opening game, joins a pool of young talent from the Centre of Excellence, NBA Global Academy and the NBL.
“The talent that we are putting on the floor, although young, have all been part of Basketball Australia’s National Pathway and I have no doubt they we will represent our country with distinction," said coach Rob Beveridge.
“I am really excited about coaching these up-and-coming future stars and exposing them to what it means to be part of the Boomers program.”
Former Wildcats championship players Nick Kay, Angus Bramdt and Rhys Vague now play in Japan and were also included in the squad.
“I take any opportunity I can to play for the Boomers and am looking forward to taking on more of a leadership role," said Kay.
"Hopefully my experience in Japan will be helpful and I can’t wait to get to know the young fellas."
Wildcats associate head coach Mike Kelly is also on the Boomers coaching staff for the qualifying tournament, where they will play three games later this month.
