New Wildcats recruit Will Magnay revealed the opportunity to play and train with John Mooney was one of his reasons for wanting to come to Perth.
Both players are in their early twenties, play a similar position and have NBA ambition.
“It tied into my decision, getting to go up against an NBA standard big every day at training,” said Magnay.
Mooney, who leads the NBL in rebounding with 11.9 per game, is excited to build a relationship with his new teammate.
“He’s a good player man, very athletic, uses his body well and, just watching film on him, from last year and what he did in the G League, he’s definitely a good player and good guy, we’re excited to have him,” said Mooney.
“He’s going to add another dimension to our team.”
Coach Trevor Gleeson said it’s an exciting prospect for fans, and building their chemistry is a focus.
“They’re young, they’ve watched each other on film, but not on court, it’s when you’re in the heat of the battle, what can you rely on?
"That’s something we’ve been strong for a number of years with our chemistry on court, and it’s something we do pay attention to and try to build, and they’re just starting that relationship.”
The pair are likely to share court time fort the first time in Thursday’s clash with Melbourne United.
