New and a Few Familiar Wildcats Get to Work

The Perth Wildcats’ next wave of talent were back on court this morning, as the club’s first and second-year players returned to training ahead of the full squad next week.

As the Red Army count down the days to the season opener at RAC Arena against Tasmania JackJumpers on Saturday September 20, today was an exciting first step forward as Lat Mayen, Cam Huefner, David Okwera, Elijah Pepper and Tom Gerovich all got valuable early reps in at Bendat Basketball Centre.

It was a chance for the younger core to get a jumpstart on the season, reconnect with JR and the coaching staff, and ease into the demands of another Wildcats NBL season.

Each player brings their own strengths to the group. Okwera’s size and shot-blocking, Mayen’s versatility, Huefner’s physicality, Pepper’s scoring instincts and Gerovich’s basketball IQ will all be important as the squad takes shape for NBL26.

In his 17th season, captain Jesse Wagstaff led by example once again, joining the session to set the tone and showing the younger group exactly what it takes to build a winning standard.

Wagstaff’s presence added a layer of experience and leadership, offering guidance and keeping the standards high as always.

The full squad is due back on court next week, with preparations stepping up ahead of the pre-season NBL Blitz August 27-31 and Perth Wildcats International Series on Friday September 12.
