Perth Wildcats Take Leap for Life for Breast Cancer Care WA
Perth Wildcats Hall of Famer Greg Hire is taking the leap for Breast Cancer Care WA, joining the 13th annual Leap for Life fundraiser this June.
Returning on Saturday 13 June, Leap for Life will see participants skydive from 14,000 feet above Jurien Bay, raising important funds for West Australians affected by breast cancer.
Previously known as Jump for Jane, the event was established in honour of former BCCWA board member Jane Loring, who passed away from breast cancer in 2013, and has since evolved into a powerful annual fundraiser built around community, resilience and support.
Hire has remained closely connected to the cause over a number of years, continuing to help raise awareness and support for the work of Breast Cancer Care WA across the state.
He will take the leap himself on Friday 12 June as an opening act to the main event, saying he wouldn’t miss the chance to support BCCWA and their Leap for Life event.
“The Pink Game was always a special one to play in with the Wildcats, so it’s awesome to be able to continue supporting Breast Cancer Care WA through Leap for Life.
They do incredible work for people and families across WA impacted by breast cancer, and if taking the leap helps raise more awareness and support for BCCWA, I’m more than happy to put any nerves aside and get behind it.
Now all I need to do is convince Wags to do it with me.....”
The NBL27 season will mark a special milestone for the Perth Wildcats, with the Club set to host its tenth annual Pink Game in support of long-standing charity partner Breast Cancer Care WA.
The night has become a significant fixture on the Wildcats calendar, creating an opportunity for the broader basketball community to rally behind those impacted by breast cancer while helping fund essential support services throughout WA.
Each season, RAC Arena transforms for the occasion, with fans embracing the Pink Game atmosphere and Wildcats players and coaches wearing specially designed uniforms to help raise funds for BCCWA initiatives.
Jacquie Spiller, Breast Cancer Care WA’s General Manager Fundraising and Marketing, said Greg’s involvement would help shine a light on the vital support BCCWA provides across WA.
“We are absolutely delighted to have Greg take part in this year’s Leap for Life, further extending our partnership with the Wildcats beyond the annual Pink Game.
As we celebrate 10 years since the inaugural Pink Game in 2016, it is wonderful to have Greg — who played in the very first game — participate in another calendar highlight for Breast Cancer Care WA.
Our partnership with the Wildcats is incredibly special to us, and we can’t wait to see Greg take the leap on the day.”
Funds raised through events such as Leap for Life and the Wildcats Pink Game assist BCCWA in continuing to provide free specialist nursing, counselling, financial assistance and practical support services to individuals and families navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.
BCCWA receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the community and fundraising initiatives to continue delivering those services across Western Australia.
