Perth Wildcats Trio Named in Boomers Squad

Perth Wildcats trio Mitch Norton, Todd Blanchfield and Luke Travers have been named in the Australian Boomers team for the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Asia Qualifiers.
Additionally, Wildcats associate head coach Mike Kelly has been named head coach of the squad, following a championship-winning coaching campaign at the FIBA Asia Cup last month.
Wildcats young-gun Luke Travers is excited to make his Boomers debut.
“It’s a dream come true, growing up as an Aussie basketballer, playing for the Boomers is a goal for every kid so I’m just super excited and honoured to get this opportunity,” said Travers.
“Having Norto and Todd with me definitely makes things easier, they have both done this before and are familiar with the system and how things work which is cool.
“To have Mike there is awesome too because I’ve been able to kind of get a head start with him this week on what he wants to see from me at the qualifiers.”
Travers, Norton and Blanchfield will join former Wildcats teammates Nick Kay, Angus Brandt and Rhys Vague along with an array of up-and-coming Australian basketball talent.
The Boomers will face Bahrain on Friday 26 August in Bahrain before returning home to face Iran on Monday 29 August in Bendigo.
