The Perth Wildcats congratulate Assistant Coach Ben Peterson on his appointment as Head Coach of the Men's NBL1 Perry Lakes Hawks for 2026 and 2027.
Peterson’s rise reflects his strong work ethic and growing reputation as one of Australian basketball’s emerging coaching talents.
Since joining the Wildcats as Video Coordinator and Player Development Assistant, his dedication and ability to build relationships within the playing group quickly earned him a promotion to Assistant Coach ahead of the Hungry Jack's NBL26 season.
His coaching experience also includes time with the Philadelphia 76ers as a Player Development Intern during NBA Summer League, and with the Otago Nuggets in New Zealand’s NZNBL, helping shape his player-focused and analytical approach to the game.
Peterson said he’s eager to embrace the opportunity and continue contributing to basketball development in Western Australia.
“I am honoured to accept the role of Head Coach of the Perry Lakes Hawks. This is a proud club with a strong history and tradition, and I’m excited to build on that foundation as we move the program into its next chapter.”
In addition to his roles with the Wildcats and NBL1, Peterson continues to play an important part in the Wildcats Academy, helping guide and develop the next generation of WA talent.
Perry Lakes Hawks General Manager Jenny Purser said the appointment reflects both clubs’ shared commitment to developing coaches and players within the WA basketball system.
“Our club is very happy to have Ben lead our NBL1 West Men’s team and we are looking forward to seeing how Ben brings his experience with the Perth Wildcats and the other programs he has been involved in to the Hawks.
Ben works closely with the Wildcats Academy and has a strong commitment to player development. His time with the Perth Wildcats and his international perspective will be invaluable as we build towards a successful future.”
The Perth Wildcats are proud to see his continued growth and looks forward to supporting his coaching journey across both programs.
