Rnd10 DrinkWise Game Preview: Wildcats vs Melb. United NBL26

The Wildcats head to John Cain Arena on Sunday to face Melbourne United, who are coming off a 105-102 road win over Illawarra, which is their 12th victory of the season and another reminder of why they sit on top of the Hungry Jacks NBL26 Ladder.
For Perth, this matchup arrives at the perfect time. They’ve pieced together a strong stretch of form, including their Friday night win over the JackJumpers, where their shot quality, defensive commitment and late-game execution will give the side confidence as they travel to Melbourne.
Wildcats Head Coach John Rillie liked much of what he saw but didn’t shy away from the areas that still need tightening, particularly closing quarters and managing momentum swings, which he highlighted in Friday's post game press conference.
Offensively, Perth know they can’t afford the scoring lulls they had against Tasmania after a fast start. Melbourne punish those lapses immediately.
Kristian Doolittle has been one of the most impactful players in the league over the past fortnight and gives Perth a genuine counterpunch heading into Melbourne.
Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. will also be a key factor against his former side. JLA has delivered steady, reliable production all season, and now gets the chance to bring that consistent interior presence against the club he won an NBL Championship with and helped shape his early career.
Defensively, the Wildcats continue to build around David Duke Jr’s reliability. He’s taken elite matchups week after week, and with Goulding the next challenge, it's another assignment he'll be tackling at a high level against one of the league's best shooters.
United’s recent Round 10 performance showed exactly what makes them so dangerous. They had production across the board, played at pace, and found scoring from everywhere.
Milton Doyle set the tone early with 11 first-quarter points, while Tyson Walker and Finn Delany attacked the paint for tough finishes. Chris Goulding didn’t take long to catch fire either, erupting for a personal 10-3 run in the second quarter that included three triples, on his way to 18 first-half points.
Jesse Edwards was a problem inside all night, finishing plays at the rim and cleaning up late to ice the game at the free-throw line. Tanner Krebs and Fabijan Krslovic gave United important energy and shot-making, with Krslovic producing momentum-swinging effort plays on both ends. And when the game tightened, Delany was the one who steadied them, knocking down the decisive corner three in the final 30 seconds.
This matchup is less about Melbourne’s reputation and more about where Perth sit right now. United are deep, disciplined and confident. The Red Army will be hoping the Wildcats’ recent form can translate against the current benchmark of the NBL, inside one of the toughest buildings to win in.
