Perth Wildcats gun Alex Sarr is at the top of prominent NBA writer Kevin O’Connor’s draft board, a little over six weeks out from the 2024 NBA Draft.

In his latest mock draft this week, O’Connor has the Wildcats Next Star ahead of Serbian Nikola Topic and UConn’s Stephon Castle at No.1.

The highly-respected O’Connor, from The Ringer, described Sarr as a “skyscraping wing trapped in a centre’s body, with a rare blend of size, finesse, and explosiveness”.

He highlighted Sarr’s on-ball defence, shot blocking, positional versatility and hustle as his main strengths.

The athletic Frenchman starred in his debut season in the NBL, averaging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

Sarr went from a projected top-20 pick to a regular in the top three of multiple draft boards on the back of his performances as a Wildcat.

The NBA Draft will be held on June 26-27 in New York.

Sarr’s focus has been preparing for next week’s NBA draft combine in Chicago.

The NBA this week released a 78-player list for the combine, which is votes on by the teams.

Sarr is ranked at the top of the list in a further sign of his No.1 pick credentials.
