Statement regarding John Brown III

The Perth Wildcats were this morning notified by the National Basketball League that its request to add American player John Brown III to its roster beyond the deadline has been denied.
The Wildcats began the process of registering Brown III on 15 March, 11 days ahead of the deadline, but complications with his former club in Russia and the FIBA clearance process led to significant delays.
Given these delays and the exceptional circumstances surrounding Brown III’s departure from Russia over concerns of a humanitarian crisis, the Wildcats requested the NBL exercise its discretion to waive the requirement for players to play at least 25 per cent of the season (seven games) for Finals eligibility.
While extremely disappointed with the outcome, the club has accepted the NBL’s decision.
“We’re always looking to improve our roster and put our team in the best possible position to contend for a championship. We saw an opportunity to do that when John became available” said general manager of basketball operations, Danny Mills.
“The club would like to thank John for the level of professionalism and the dedication to the team he’s demonstrated during this period of uncertainty.
“Regardless of the outcome, we have an outstanding roster. The coaching staff and myself have full confidence in the team’s ability to build momentum ahead of a Finals run. We are now purely focused on Thursday night’s game against the NZ Breakers.”
