Wildcats Around the World

As the Perth Wildcats continue to build their roster for NBL24, many of the contracted players have taken their talents overseas and to the NBL1.

From Australia to Spain and in between, Perth Wildcats players are representing teams all around the world.

We’ve outlined below what they are up to, and how they are performing.

Keanu Pinder:

Representing Carplus Fuenlabrada in Spain, Keanu Pinder has been dominating the ACB League.

His best outing came against Joventut where he put up 25 points, including 3 3PM, and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes.

Pinder is averaging 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds after six games and has already earned an ACB Player of the Round honour.

Fuenlabrada, who are currently fighting to avoid relegation, just broke a 19-game losing streak, winning their first game since November over Bilbao Basket.

Corey Webster:
After a brief stint with the KK Mornar Bar in the ABA League, Corey Webster has joined the Al Ahly Sporting club in the Basketball African League.

This season is Al Ahly’s Basketball Africa League debut, qualifying for the competition after winning their sixth national title last year in the Egyptian Super League.

Coming off the bench, Webster has averaged 8.6 points and 4.3 assists across three games, while Al Ahly remains undefeated.

Hyrum Harris:

Brand new Wildcats recruit Hyrum Harris is currently playing for the Hawke’s Bay Hawks in the NZNBL competition.

Harris has played five games so far, averaging 16.4 points and 12.8 rebounds.

Harris’ best game came up against the Taranaki Airs in Round 2, where he posted a near triple-double with a dominant 25 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists.

David Okwera:

On the back of declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft, our newest power forward David Okwera is currently in the United States working out with former Dallas Mavericks Director of Player Development, Mike Procopio and pro trainer Tim Martin.

Okwera is set to train alongside NBL23 Next Star Rayan Rupert, and projected number one draft pick Victor Wembanyama in preparation to take part in pre-draft workouts with NBA teams before the upcoming NBA draft in late June.

Before taking off, Okwera played two games for the Sandringham Sabres in the NBL1 South competition.

In two games with the Sabres, Okwera put up 18 points and 8 rebounds against the Mt Gambier Pioneers, before a 16 point and 10 rebound double-double against Frankston.

Ben Henshall:

Up-and-coming Wildcats talent Ben Henshall is currently playing in the NBL1 East competition with the BA Centre of Excellence (CoE).

This is his second season playing NBL1 with the BA CoE, having moved to Canberra in 2022 to attend the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). 

In five games, Henshall is averaging 19.1 points, 4.3 assists and 2 steals per game, with his best outing so far against Illawarra, where he stuffed the stats sheet with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Henshall is also preparing to head to the United States, where he’ll be playing for the NBA Global Academy which will take part in the NBA Academy Games.

Michael Harris:

Joining Jack Andrew, Michael Harris is also playing for the Otago Nuggets in the NZNBL.

Harris is finding his groove, averaging 16.8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals after just four games, showing growth with every outing.

Harris earned player of the game for his most recent performance, with a dominant 31-point, 6 rebound and 4 steal effort in a win against the Nelson Giants.

Jack Andrew:

Wildcats’ development player Jack Andrew has journeyed home to New Zealand and returned to the Otago Nuggets in the NZNBL

Andrew was a member of the NZNBL22 Otago Nuggets championship-winning side, and after spending a season developing with the Wildcats, has returned to help them defend their title.

Andrew’s best game for the Nuggets came last week. Stepping into the starting line-up, Andrews put up 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in a win over the Nelson Giants.

Kyle Zunic:

Kyle Zunic travelled to Queensland this off-season, joining the Northside Wizards in the NBL1 North competition.

Though currently away on leave, Zunic played one game for the Wizards before he left where he put up 22 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists.
