The second-year Wildcats assistant, who is also head coach of NZ outfit Auckland Tuatara, guided his team to a thrilling 78-85 come-from-behind semi-final victory over Franklin Bulls on Wednesday evening.
Young has coached the Auckland-based team for four seasons, making finals every year including now three grand finals.
There was another familiar face in the Tuatara side with former Wildcats guard Corey Webster, who played 49 games for the club, playing a starring role.
Experienced veteran Webster amassed a team-high 25 points and six assists, including a dominant final term, to help his side turn around a double-digit deficit.
Young’s Tuatara take on Canterbury Rams in Christchurch on Sunday for the 2024 Sal’s NBL championship.
Auckland will be hoping to make it third time lucky after losing last season’s decider to Canterbury and the 2022 grand final to Otago.
