The Perth Wildcats are pleased to announce the re-signing of sharp-shooting wing Todd Blanchfield to a three-year contract.

After joining the Wildcats in 2020, the NBL veteran went on to have his best NBL season in 2021, averaging 15.3 points per game while setting the record for the most three-pointers made by a Wildcat in a single season.

With two seasons at the club now to his name, the 30-year-old is excited to be remaining a Wildcat until at least 2025.

“I really enjoyed my last two years in Perth; everything from the community to the club. I’m excited to be back for three years and to look to build something with this group,” he said.

“My main goal is to win a championship. I’d love to be able to get one under the belt before I retire, and Perth’s proven over the years that it’s the kind of environment we’re you’re able to do that.”

Incredibly, Blanchfield has 347 games of NBL experience after beginning his career as an 18-year-old in 2009.

“Todd’s really in his prime, and we’re excited that he’s remaining a Wildcat during this peak phase of his career,” said Perth Wildcats general manager of basketball operations, Danny Mills.

“It’s fantastic to have a player of his calibre and a person of his quality re-sign with our club to help continue the stability of our core group for the next three years,”

Throughout his NBL career, Todd Blanchfield has averaged 10.4 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

The Queenslander was named to the All-NBL Second Team in 2015 and was awarded NBL Most Improved Player in the same season.

He was part of Australia’s gold medal winning team at the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon.

Head coach Scott Morrison is pleased to have Blanchfield back in the Wildcats line-up.

“Todd shoots the three-ball at a high percentage with a quick release, allowing us to utilise him both as a floor spacer and as a focal point of offensive actions,” he said.

“Despite playing through a couple of nagging injuries this past season, Todd was able to record close to career-highs in both three-point percentage and rebounding while bringing an incredible amount of professionalism and experience.

“We are optimistic that with a healthy start to the season and contract stability, 2022/23 will be a career year for Todd.”

Todd Blanchfield is currently representing the Rockhampton Rockets in the NBL1 North, where he is averaging 25.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

Blanchfield joins Mitch Norton, Bryce Cotton, Majok Majok, Corey Shervill, Luke Travers, Kyle Zunic and Ollie Hayes-Brown on the 2022/23 Perth Wildcats roster.
