Wildcats Set for Blitz Opener Against Melbourne United

The Perth Wildcats will tip off their NBL Blitz campaign tonight against rivals Melbourne United at AIS Arena in Canberra.

Tonight’s clash marks the first opportunity for fans to see the Wildcats’ new-look roster in action against NBL opposition, as preparations ramp up for NBL26.

Captain Jesse Wagstaff begins his 17th season in Wildcats colours, fittingly in his hometown of Canberra.

Rising star Ben Henshall also returns to the floor following his re-signing which has excited the Red Army, while Elijah Pepper will look to continue his momentum after a standout NBL1 campaign.

Returning stars Dylan Windler and Kristian Doolittle have impressed through pre-season and look primed to play key roles on both ends of the floor as they look to take the next step in leading this Wildcats roster into NBL26.

Speaking at shootaround this morning, Jesse Wagstaff said the Blitz provides the ideal chance to bring the group together.

“This is a chance to test ourselves against top opposition and to keep building the chemistry we’ll need across the season. Every game is a step towards where we want to be for NBL26.”

Perth’s Blitz opener comes against a Melbourne United outfit already building momentum after pre-season wins over SEM Phoenix and the Cairns Taipans. With United in rhythm early, the match provides the perfect test for Perth’s new-look roster to measure itself against one of the league’s most polished units.

While anticipation is high for Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. to debut against his former club, the big man will sit out tonight’s contest due to his late arrival from national duties with South Sudan. JLA has his sights set on Friday’s match-up with the Illawarra Hawks.

Defensive leader Sunday Dech will miss tonight’s clash, with newly signed Development Player Jaron Rillie stepping into the lineup. Dech won’t be absent from the action entirely though, as he’ll join the broadcast team to provide insight as part of the NBL commentary for a portion of the game.

Get ready Wildcats fans! Basketball is back and the Red Army are fired up for a new season!
