Zunic impresses in history-making first NBL games

With back court options looking a little depleted heading into the NBL’s opening round, Perth Wildcats fans could have been forgiven to be feeling a little worried.
Mitch Norton had been ruled out for the first month of the season, Michael Frazier II was ruled out with leg soreness and Kevin White had missed training session through illness.
What the Red Army may not have expected was for a development player to take the reins and step into a starting point guard position.
In fact, it had never happened before.
On Friday, Kyle Zunic became the first development player in NBL history to earn a start on debut.

He didn’t disappoint, and on Sunday, he held the position.
Across the two games, he played an average of over 19 minutes, contributing an averaged of 7.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists - including a 13-point performance against the Taipans.
Zunic was signed as a development player for two seasons back in September after finishing his college career at Winthrop University.
His college coach described him as the toughest player he’s ever coached and, while early days in the NBL season, he’s living up to the reputation.
The Perth Wildcats return to action on Sunday against Brisbane.
