Rnd21 DrinkWise Game Preview: Wildcats vs Kings NBL26

“They’re playing very well, there’s no better opportunity than going and playing the hottest team in the league right now," Perth Wildcats coach John Rillie.

The Perth Wildcats return to Sydney with an opportunity to measure their late season rise against one of the league’s established contenders in the Sydney Kings.

The previous meetings between the teams came at a very different stage of Perth’s season. Since then, the Wildcats have surged up the ladder, winning nine of their past ten games to place themselves firmly in the top four battle.

Sydney remain one of the competition’s strongest outfits, anchored by Kendric Davis’ offensive production and control. His standout performance in the most recent clash still serves as a reference point, however the Wildcats’ defensive structure has tightened, with Kristian Doolittle continuing to set the standard.

Doolittle’s versatility has been central to Perth’s resurgence. Night after night, he has taken on the league’s most difficult assignments, regardless of position or size.

The matchup with Davis shapes as one of the game’s defining contests, a challenge Head Coach John Rillie has openly welcomed in his post game press conference against the Brisbane Bullets on Friday.

“What I’m really looking forward to is, they have a player with a lot of speculation around being an MVP, I have a guy who I think is pretty good defensively. So let’s go and see what happens.”

For Wildcats fans, it is a familiar theme. When the stakes rise, Doolittle embraces the responsibility.

Perth also land in Sydney with added firepower following David Duke Jr.’s return. After working his way back from an elbow injury, Duke’s impact was immediate, his presence strengthens a lineup already playing some of its most balanced basketball of the season.

With only two games remaining, ladder positioning remains fluid. Perth sit fourth, with every result carrying direct finals implications. A strong performance against Sydney would reinforce the trajectory the Wildcats have built across recent weeks.

Rillie views the contest as the ideal benchmark.

“They’re playing very well, there’s no better opportunity than going and playing the hottest team in the league right now.”
